1/2" Hex Male-Female Standoffs
1/2 hex male female standoffs are threaded spacers with a male post on one end and a tapped female bore on the other, designed to maintain a precise 1/2" gap between PCBs, panels, and chassis components. The hexagonal body provides flat-to-flat surfaces for wrench or socket installation, making it well-suited for production environments where precise torque control is required during assembly.
These standoffs are a core component in PCB stacking, enclosure mounting, and electronic assemblies where both controlled height and secure fastening are required at every level of the stack.

What Are Hex Male-Female Standoffs?
Male-female standoffs have a threaded stud on one end and a tapped bore on the other. A screw from below threads into the female bore to secure the lower board, while the male post on top accepts the next board in the stack. This configuration supports sequential stacking with a minimal fastener count and consistent, repeatable spacing.Female-female standoffs (also called hex female standoffs) accept screws from both ends without a pass-through post. These are better suited for applications where a single board attaches to a fixed mounting surface. Unthreaded round spacers provide height separation through a clearance bore, requiring a bolt or screw to pass through the body rather than engaging threads inside it.

Selection Guidance for Hex Male-Female Standoffs
- Standoff vs. Spacer: Standoffs are threaded, spacers are not. Standoffs are used when height spacing and secure fastening are both required at each mounting point.
- Measuring Spacing: Body length equals the standoff's contribution to stack height. Account for PCB thickness and hardware dimensions when determining total assembly height.
- Material Selection: Nylon is best for electrical insulation or weight-sensitive applications. Brass offers strong thread engagement and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel suits high-strength or harsh-environment builds. Aluminum provides a lightweight metal option.
- Hex vs. Round Body: Hex bodies allow wrench tightening. They are practical in high-torque applications or confined assembly spaces. Round body standoffs suit lower-profile or hand-assembly configurations.
