4.5mm Hex Male-Female Standoffs
4.5mm hex male-female standoffs are metric-thread spacers with a male post on one end and a tapped female bore on the other. They are designed for PCB stacking and board-to-chassis mounting in assemblies built to metric standards. The hexagonal body provides wrench flats for tool-driven installation, and the 4.5mm body size suits compact metric assemblies that require low-clearance board spacing.
These standoffs are a standard component in international industrial electronics, and OEM builds that use M-series fasteners.

What Are 4.5mm Hex Male-Female Standoffs?
The male post on one end threads into the board or bracket above; the female bore on the other accepts a screw from below to secure the board underneath. That combination is what makes male-female standoffs the go-to hardware for PCB stacking. Each level of the stack connects to the next through the same column of standoffs, with no extra fasteners required between levels.Female-female standoffs are the alternative when boards attach independently to each standoff end rather than stacking sequentially. Unthreaded spacers work where only height separation is needed and a through-bolt handles the clamping.

Standoff and Spacer Selection Guidance
- Standoff vs. Spacer: Male-female standoffs provide threaded engagement on both sides of the stack. If the assembly only needs a height gap with a single pass-through bolt, an unthreaded spacer is the simpler choice.
- Measuring Spacing: Body length equals the standoff's height contribution. Account for PCB thickness and fastener dimensions in total stack height calculations. Lengths are available up to 25mm for taller assembly requirements.
- Material Selection: Aluminum is a good fit for lightweight builds and applications sensitive to magnetic interference. Stainless steel is the better choice when corrosion resistance or exposure to chemical fumes is a concern.
- Inch vs. Metric: Use metric standoffs wherever M-series threads are specified. Do not substitute inch-thread hardware for metric assemblies, as the thread profiles are incompatible.
