1/4" Hex Male-Female Standoffs

1/4 hex male female standoffs are threaded spacers with a male post on one end and a tapped female bore on the other, providing a precise 1/4" separation between circuit boards, brackets, and electronic components. The hexagonal body offers wrench engagement for torque-controlled installation, and the short 1/4" body length makes these standoffs a practical choice for compact PCB stacks and space-constrained enclosures.

These standoffs are widely used in production electronics builds, prototyping platforms, and embedded system assemblies.

What Are 1/4" Hex Male-Female Standoffs?

Male-female standoffs are the standard hardware for PCB stacking. A screw threads into the female bore from the base to secure the lower board, while the male post extends upward to accept the next board or panel. At 1/4", the body length is short enough for dense stacks in compact enclosures while providing enough clearance for surface-mount components and solder joints.

Female-female standoffs serve similar mounting functions but require individual screws at each level since there is no pass-through post. Unthreaded round spacers are a simpler solution when a through-bolt provides all the clamping force needed to hold the assembly at height.

  • Tight-clearance control panel and power supply builds
  • R&D prototyping and evaluation board configurations
  • Shield and panel standoff applications in RF assemblies

Selection Guidance

  • Standoff vs. Spacer: Male-female standoffs provide threaded engagement on both sides of the stack. If the assembly only needs a height gap with a single pass-through bolt, an unthreaded round spacer is the simpler choice.
  • Measuring Spacing: The 1/4" body length determines nominal stack height. Add PCB thickness and hardware dimensions to calculate total assembly height.
  • Material Selection: Nylon is a good fit for insulating standoffs in sensitive PCB layouts. Brass and stainless steel are better where thread strength or corrosion resistance are priorities. Aluminum provides reduced weight with good structural performance.
  • Hex vs. Round Body: Hex bodies are easier to install with a wrench in confined spaces and prevent rotation during assembly. Round body variants are better suited for low-profile or hand-assembly configurations.
