Metric Set Screws

RC Fasteners is a leading national distributor of metric set screws. Also known as metric grub screws, these headless fasteners are designed to secure components to shafts, hubs, electronic components, and other low-profile assemblies. Because metric socket set screws have no protruding head, they provide a flush installation and can be used in tight spaces.

We stock a broad selection of metric set screws in multiple materials. With various point-style options, we can supply metric set screws that deliver the fastening strength, vibration resistance, and surface protection your application requires. Our metric socket set screw inventory includes:

DIN 913 Flat Point Set Screws
DIN 914 Cone Point Set Screws
DIN 915 Dog Point Set Screws
DIN 916 Cup Point Set Screws (including Knurled)
Nylon Tip and Brass Tip Set Screws

What Are Metric Set Screws?

Metric set screws are fully threaded headless fasteners. They are installed using a hex key or Allen wrench, and are designed to create a flush finish. They are available in a range of materials and finishes depending on the application’s strength and corrosion-resistance requirements.

Metric socket set screws work by pressing the screw's point against the mating surface. That pressure locks the assembly in place. Socket set screws can be easily removed or adjusted using the same hex key or Allen wrench used for installation.

Common applications for metric set screws include shaft collars, gears, couplings, fixtures, and other components that require a low-profile finish. Because they sit flush or recessed, they work well in rotating assemblies and confined spaces where a standard fastener simply can’t fit.

Types of Metric Set Screws

  • Cup Point (DIN 916): The most common metric socket set screw point style. The cup-shaped tip digs into the mating surface and creates a strong grip.
  • Flat Point (DIN 913): The flat point distributes pressure evenly for minimal surface damage. A good choice for delicate or finished materials that need to avoid marring the surface.
  • Cone Point (DIN 914): The sharp conical tip of the cone point bites into the mating surface for higher holding power. Good option for semi-permanent applications.
  • Dog Point (DIN 915): Dog point metric screws feature an extended cylindrical tip that seats into a pre-drilled hole. Ideal for precision alignment applications.
  • Knurled Cup Point (ISO 4029): The knurled cup point increases bite to resist rotation. Good for high-torque applications.
  • Nylon Tip / Brass Tip: Nylon and brass tip metric set screws create a softer contact against the mating surface, helping avoid indentation or damage. Used for applications that need surface protection.

Metric Set Screw DIN & ISO Standards, Size Ranges, and Thread Pitch Options

We stock metric set screws manufactured to DIN and ISO standards. These standards define point style, thread form, material hardness, and dimensional tolerances. Each type is available in a range of sizes and lengths.
Point Style Standard Size Range Length Range
Flat Point DIN 913 M2 – M16 3 – 90 mm
Cone Point DIN 914 M1.4 – M24 3 – 60 mm
Dog Point DIN 915 M3 – M24 5 – 80 mm
Cup Point DIN 916 M1.6 – M30 2 – 100 mm
Knurled Cup Point ISO 4029 M3 – M24 3 – 80 mm
Nylon Tip - M3 – M12 3 – 25 mm
Brass Tip - M3 – M12 3 – 25 mm

Thread Pitch and Drive Type

Thread pitch is determined by diameter and follows the ISO metric thread standard. Most sizes feature a standard coarse pitch. Fine-pitch options are available in select sizes for applications requiring more precise adjustment or higher resistance to vibration loosening. All metric socket set screws on this page are driven with a hex (Allen) key and install fully recessed with no external wrenching surface.

Materials and Finish Options for Metric Grub Screws

  • Alloy Steel (Thermal Black Oxide): High strength, good for high-load applications. Black oxide provides minor corrosion protection, best for indoor environments.
  • Alloy Steel (Zinc Plating, CR+3): Zinc plating adds moderate corrosion resistance beyond a plain finish or black oxide finish.
  • Stainless Steel A2: Provides good corrosion resistance for outdoor environments, as well as applications that require moderate chemical exposure.

Common Applications for Metric Set Screws

Virtually every major industrial sector utilizes socket set screws for various applications, including:
